He moved. It was a flash in the moonlight, a blur of motion like I’d never witnessed before. No human had the capacity to move like that. When I found myself face-to-face with him there in the meadow, I knew without a doubt that the journal was authentic. I knew that my grandfather hadn’t been crazy at all. Because a foot away from me stood a vampire.

Contains spoilers!!!! Fair warnedI can't really explain what is going on in this book because my head hasn't fully processed it. Sarah is now a warden to the vampire Michael, who turned her mother who is now living in California, and a couple others who are underground. But before all this her father's doctor tells her that her mother is alive after fourteen years of thinking she had died. After that a mysterious guy, Alex, shows up. He tells Sarah that her mother had sent him. He then tells Sarah how he met her mother and even told her that the sex with her is magical.
Hello idiot! She just found out her mother is not really dead and you tell her that the sex was magical and that she was a vampire turned by Michael. Yeah good idea, jack head! Then he tells her that it is a lie. (The sex with Sarah's mother not the other stuff.) He only said that to keep her at arms length. You are proving to be an even bigger jack head.
Then it got confusing every time Sarah was around Michael. She had a hard time remembering that she was on earth let alone that there is a reason this vampire is in a "prison". Then a rogue vampire group shows up who have Sarah's sister, Katie. They want Michael because of his blood. He is one of the most powerful vamps and they want that power. Of course it hits the fan.
Due to the MC's long explanations of her emotions I skimmed through a bunch. That probably didn't help my understanding but it was like "Get to the point already!" She was annoying. She made it to my How am I even standing your BS list. I want to just bang my head against the wall. I know I will lose brain cells faster this way. (Harsh I know but that is totally my feelings right now.)

The Vampire Warden A Paranormal Romance Undead in Brown County Book 1 edition by SJ Wright Romance eBooks Reviews
The Vampire's Warden has a very unique setting, and I can't say I've read anything quite like it before. So much have been done with Vampires to the date, that it's hard to come by something totally new to the genre. It's a novella (don't let the page count fool you) that begins a series, and to my understanding the next one will be novel length.
My copy is a signed ARC I won from a giveaway, and I knew very little about this book before reading it - just the backside blurb. I have to say, that without winning the copy, I probably wouldn't have read this at all, since even though I had heard about it, it didn't seem intriguing enough with the vague description and plain cover (yes, I do judge books by the cover). Also having the protagonist as a namesake for a famous singer put me off. These things have improved in the current versions I've understood, since the cover has changed and the female leads surname seems to be Wood nowadays instead of Brightman. It would have been my loss though, since The Vampire's Warden is a good novella.
Sarah Brightman (not the famous singer) has just lost her father, and he left her something else than the inn to look after.
When I started reading Vampire's Warden, I got a bit of horror story feeling out of it. It has a lingering star, and you can really get the feeling it's happening in the countryside and the autumn is just about there. What bothered me in the story, that Wright used time to describe things that weren't really necessary for the story and yet she rushes through others, that would've been nice to get some more information of. I think the novella would have worked nicely on book length if the author would have taken the time to expand it a bit. At places this feels like a first draft.
I still think it's a great read for paranormal lovers - if for nothing else, the unique setting should be a reason for you to read it. I'm expecting quite much from the follow up book.
Sarah has just lost her father, and must take over the family business; a B&B. She just finds out that her mother, whom she was told died many years ago, is still alive (sort of).
First she meets Alex. An ex vampire (somehow his undead condition can be reversed). Then she meets Micheal, a vampire who has lived on her property since her dad was a child.
Sarah finds out her family are wardens to a field of sleeping vampires, and Micheal who was sentenced there for some wrongdoing.
This is the first book of a series, so we don't really get all the answers to what is happening. How a vampire, or anyone for that matter, could live on your property under your nose for 20+ years is something I don't understand.
Sarah believes she has many friends. But they all knew and kept important secrets from her. The vampire field, her dad's responsibility as warden, her mother changing to vampire and still being alive.
I found this story a nice way to pass some time, but wasn't really thrilled with the plot.
